My name is Hattie Miller. I have been working in clay since I threw my first pot in high school around 1984, I fell in love instantly.  In college, I spent a lot of time in the art studio and was the ceramics TA for 3 years. Today, I paint, sculpt high fire, hand painted, wish whistles, paint, and love to write stories and songs. I also love to play violin. I love to create.

I got my BA from Skidmore College where I studied both clay and languages (French and Spanish).

Today, I have both MEd and APRN degrees. I am a former teacher and currently work as an APRN.

 

BUT... I feel my life experience has taught me the most! I have been through a few rough and tough times. The work of surviving (in French survivre = to live above) has been my toughest school yet and it was not always easy to navigate. I was often alone with few who seemed to understand. These experiences have led me to offer coaching to those who want to find their heart's path again. I want to help others who have been unseen, misunderstood, or hurt by life. We are all works in progress, n'est-ce pas?

Wish whistles all began when I was a child. I had a very scary recurring nightmare about a bear when I was 4. I couldn't get the bad dreams to stop. I did tell my mother about them, but nothing helped. Then one day, we were at a tag sale in the UP of Michigan and she found a homemade acorn fairy. She let me know that this fairy would be able to help me and I knew it to be true. I already knew all about the marvelous wonderfulness of fairies (do you?). That very night, the acorn fairy took away my nightmare, never to return. That's how the wish whistles started... I want children to have a bonified way to make a wish and move through tough things! Fairy power.

As a child, I read and read and read. I love the beauty of language - palindromes and riddles and rhyme - singing prose. Children's books are still my favorite - The Little Prince, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pippi Longstocking, Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, Amelia Bedelia, Wrinkle in Time (and all of Madeline L'Engle and Ronald Dahl books), Harry Potter, Amelia Bedelia, Miss PIggle Wiggle, and so, so, so many more... I found simple truths, silliness, and friendship in these books. My MINI coloring books are small black and white books that have little messages in them - kids love them and so do silly adults. My mini coloring books are 4x6 and each has a little message.

 

I am working to write a children's chapter book now. It is about a small girl who finds a helpful fairy whistle with the help of the dragon Heliotrope. Heliotrope is a dragon who watches over children who see, think, and know differently. ​
